If you have checked out a lot of Internet sites, you've probably stumbled upon some error message now and again. An error can occur in case the website hosting server cannot process a request (Error 400), if you have to log in in order to see some content and you have not done so (Error 401), if you aren't able to access some webpage (Error 403) or if a link leads to a file that isn't on the server (Error 404). Receiving this sort of messages could sometimes be irritating as the pages don't have anything in common with the actual website. That’s why some web hosting companies allow you to apply your own error pages that'll match the design of your own Internet site and that could have any content which you want - details why the error has appeared, a suggestion how to handle it or even some funny remark. This type of function shall help you keep the visitor on the site no matter the error and the reason for it.

Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting

You shall be able to set up personalized error pages for any of your domains or subdomains. The feature is supported by all shared hosting plans that we offer, so when you log in to the Hepsia CP and navigate to the Hosted Domains section, you may click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up that will show up, you can select the kind of error page that should show up - a default one from our system, a standard Apache web server page or a customized one. For the aforementioned alternative, you need to assign the URL to the page, so when you use custom made pages, you need to upload the files in your website hosting account first. Another way is to use an .htaccess file located in the domain or subdomain folder with a line for every error type. The exact syntax can be located in our Knowledge Base, to help you use this feature even if you don't have any previous experience.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you host your web sites in a semi-dedicated server account from us, you'll be able to set customized error pages for any of them with ease through our in-house made Hepsia hosting CP. With only a few clicks inside the Hosted Domains section, you'll be able to modify the default setting from a system page to a custom one for any of the four error types. All you have to do is supply a link to each file that you've uploaded before that and then save the change. If required, you will be able to revert this modification at any time and in exactly the same way. If you'd like, you could use an .htaccess file as well. It should be created/uploaded in the domain or subdomain folder belonging to the internet site whose error pages you would like to change and the content for such a file can be found in our Help article for this matter.
