Each registered domain name has a minimum of 2 Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain name to the servers of a specific web hosting provider. In this way, you have got both your website and your emails handled by the exact same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there are a number of other records, like A and MX. The former reveals which server manages the site for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one shows which server manages the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, whenever you type a domain name in your web browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain uses and from there you could be directed to the servers of another service provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain address. Having different records for the site and the emails means that you may have your website and your emails with two different providers if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting account with our company and you wish to switch either your site or your e-mails to an alternative company, it'll take you literally simply two clicks to do this. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default 2, it's not going to take more than a few clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a particular MX record is going to have. The propagation of any record that you change or create won't take more than several hours and if needed, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that shows how long a record will stay active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan from us, you're going to be able to see and edit the A and MX records for any of the domain names or subdomains that you host inside the account. The Hepsia Control Panel, which you'll get to handle the account, comes with an advanced, albeit easy-to-use tool where all hosts are going to be listed in alphabetical order and you are going to be able to edit their records with no more than a few clicks. If you have to set up a new record, it will be equally simple - choose the domain/subdomain, enter the IP address or mail server record and you'll be all set. Additionally, you will be able to set different priority for the MX records you create in case that you decide to use a third-party e-mail provider and they ask you to set up additional records aside from the 2 default ones. If you ever encounter any difficulties, we've got a comprehensive Help section with videos in which you can see first-hand how to setup or modify any record.
